Happy Thanksgiving! We consider Thanksgiving to be a day to give the ultimate thanks for everything that we have. At the end of the day we put complaints to side and reflect on all of our blessings and to connect with family that we don’t get to see in person often. Here are five things I’m giving thanks for this year.
Friends, money, cars, jewelry and more have come and gone, but my family have always been here for me. Next to my faith, my family is most important in my life. They’ve comforted me, given me tough love and stood with me through the good times as well as the down right horrible times. When it comes to the siblings and moms, sometimes I feel like I won the lottery. So much of all the good parts of who I am is because of them. (I LOVE you guys!)
I am a Christian and I’m not ashamed to openly admit it. I believe in God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the Bible. While I do understand while it is so hard for many people to believe that God exists, I’ve found that my life has gained so much more meaning and more purpose having something to believe in. I find comfort knowing there’s a god watching over me and that he’s given me angels, Jesus and the Holy Spirit to guide and watch over me as well.
I appreciate having the Bible, which if you think about it is basically a book that encourages to treat ALL people with love and respect without expecting anything in return. At the end of the day, if God turns out to NOT be real, I’m fine with that. I don’t think my time will have been wasted because my faith is what keeps me grounded and a constant reminder that I have spread love, respect, joy and all of the other great things I want to see in the world. In other words, it motivates me to be the change I want to see. And I hope others find a faith or belief system that does the same.
I often refer to books as my first love. I can’t remember a time that I haven’t loved books and reading. My mom has often joked that I was born with a book in one hand and a notebook and pen in the other. Books are pretty amazing. They can take you to different worlds. Books can offer comfort. Books can save and transform lives.
I’m grateful to have a books to escape to whenever I need or want to. I’m especially grateful for the authors who write them.
Netflix has quickly become one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I stopped watching cable television years ago. Through Netflix have developed a taste for foreign television shows and movies. I’ve stumbled across some amazing documentaries and more. It’s great to have the ability to travel around the world and experience different cultures right from the comfort of my couch.
Each day that wake and get to spend with my loved ones is a blessing. Having loss more than a few important people in my life already, I know that how precious life is and how quick it can fade in an instant. I try very hard to not to take my life for granted and to live it to the fullest.
